Porsche x La Marzocco: Why a Limited-Edition Espresso Machine Costs 63% More

A home espresso machine that sells for 3,546.20 euros in Germany now has a Porsche-styled twin priced at 5,790 euros. That 2,243.80 euro gap, about 63.3%, buys a 1972 sports car paint scheme, special trim and a limited-edition plate rather than a new brewing system.

What the Premium Pays For

The Porsche x La Marzocco collection went on sale on October 30 and centers on the Linea Micra espresso machine and the Pico grinder. The Linea Micra is a dual-boiler semi-automatic machine from Italian maker La Marzocco, and its core hardware carries over unchanged. The design draws on the 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, with a cup rail shaped like the car's ducktail spoiler, RS and 2.7 engraved handles, a pressure gauge in red and green, and body finishes matched to the car's colors. A magnetic RS 2.7 badge and a numbered plate complete the look.

In the US, the standard machine starts at 4,500 dollars versus 7,911 dollars for the collaboration, a 75.8% gap. The Pico grinder rises from 1,178.10 euros to 1,550 euros in Europe, about 31.6% more. Buying both in Germany adds up to 7,340 euros against 4,724.30 euros, a difference of 55.4%.

Production totals 1,972 units across three colorways, matching the car's debut year: 911 each of Grand Prix White and Green and Tangerine and Black, plus 150 of a Germany-only White and Blue. The 2024 first collaboration was limited to 911 units at 4,950 euros. Porsche also offers espresso cups at 105 dollars, a storage canister at 135 dollars and a 1:18 scale car model at 485 dollars in the US, spreading the design across several price points. The collection is sold through Porsche's online store, select Porsche Centers and Porsche Design stores.

Brewing quality still depends on water temperature, pressure, grind and dose, not on paint or spoiler shapes. Without disclosed costs or contract terms, how much of the premium is profit cannot be calculated.

Why It Matters

The pricing shows how brand heritage and scarcity, not function, can drive the value of a premium appliance. Whether it translates into profit will depend on actual sales, add-on purchases and distribution costs.
