Pocheon Hosts Sports Day for Residents With Disabilities

Pocheon, a city in Gyeonggi Province northeast of Seoul, held its sports festival for residents with disabilities on the 16th at the Pocheon City Gymnasium. The event aimed to promote health, encourage healthy leisure, and create a space where participants could share their dreams and passion.

Five Events, One Shared Stage

The program featured five activities: a lively field day, Hangung (a Korean indoor target-throwing game), Tuho (a traditional Korean game of throwing arrows into a vase), laser shooting, and disc golf. Photos from the day captured participants in intense concentration, from players focused on disc golf throws to shooters chasing every extra point at the laser range. Another image showed a player struggling to master Shuffleboard-style Schulen, a game that proved harder than it looks.

Vice Chair Park Chang-jin delivered the opening declaration, and a vice chair of the Pocheon Disabled Sports Association served as master of ceremonies. Pocheon Mayor Baek Young-hyun offered his congratulatory greeting in sign language, a gesture that drew attention at the gathering. Seo Gwa-seok, chair of the city council, also gave a congratulatory address.

Why It Matters

Local sports days like this give residents with disabilities regular opportunities to take part in physical activity and community life. The mix of traditional Korean games and modern sports shows how inclusive events can be both accessible and fun.
