Byredo and Iittala Bring Scent and Light Home With LJUS

Perfume house Byredo and Finnish glassmaker Iittala have launched LJUS, a collection of glass objects designed to hold fragrance and flame. The release on October 16, 2026 points to a broader shift in how people spend: on the everyday senses of smell and light, not just on the objects that fill a room.

The collection's centerpiece is a fragrance diffuser vessel, and it shows how design and atmosphere are increasingly sold together.

A Vessel Built for Light

Picture a clear glass container filled with amber liquid, with two long black reed sticks rising from its mouth. The vessel widens toward the base, and its curved glass surface scatters the surrounding light unevenly. Beneath a round wooden top, black metal legs complete the piece. In a restrained space of muted furniture and walls, the curves of the glass and the thin sticks create a deliberate contrast of forms.

The diffuser vessel was blown by mouth at Iittala's glass factory in Finland. It stands 15 cm tall and 13.7 cm wide and weighs about 700 g. It is designed to hold Byredo's reed diffusers.

Five Pieces Around Scent and Flame

Beyond the diffuser vessel, the two brands created four more glass items: an incense holder, a candle stand, a candle ornament and a light refractor. Together, the five pieces use the thickness and curvature of the glass to shape containers for scent and structures that surround a flame.

The glass is sold on its own. Fragrance oils, incense and candles are available separately, so buyers who want the full effect will need to purchase those as additional items.

Why It Matters

LJUS shows how fragrance culture is moving from the bottle to the living space, where scent, glass and light are treated as one design experience. It also reflects a growing willingness to pay for sensory atmosphere at home, a trend the original article describes as the consumption of everyday senses. The article's subtitle also flags the burden that fragranced products can place on indoor air quality, a trade-off that comes with this boom.
